
O duo francês Daft Punk encerrou a cerimônia da 56ª edição do Grammy, o maior prêmio da música em Los Angeles, como o grande vencedor da noite. Sua apresentação com participação de Steve Wonder, Pharrell Williams e Nile Rodgers, foi a mais aplaudida.
Thomas Bangalter e Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo não expressaram uma só palavra durante o evento, e como de costume passaram o tempo todo usando seus capacetes robóticos.
A dupla levou cinco prêmios para casa: gravação do ano (“Get Lucky”), álbum do ano (“Random Access Memories”), performance pop em dupla ou grupo (“Get Lucky”, com Stevie Wonder, Pharrell Williams e Nile Rodgers), álbum de música eletrônica e melhor engenharia de som.
Os rappers Macklemore & Ryan Lewis também se destacaram ganhando quatro prêmios: artista novo, performance de rap e canção de rap (“Thrift Shop”) e álbum de rap (“The Heist”). Porém o favoritismo de Jay Z campeão de indicações, com nove, não vingou. Ele subiu ao palco apenas uma vez, para receber a estatueta de Melhor colaboração de rap.
O evento teve ainda a reunião de Ringo Starr e Paul McCartney, que tocou o mesmo piano colorido usado pelos Beatles na Magic Mystery Tour, em .
