Marina Tavares – Quando foi o seu primeiro contato com a música eletrônica?

MAD MAXX – O primeiro contato foi quando tinha 11 ou 12 anos.

O meu pai é músico, e ele estava fazendo alguma coisa eletrônica nos anos 80. Então, eu comecei a ouvir CDs de compilações de música eletrônica, com todos os tipos de atmosferas da música. Depois, eu comecei a ouvir Hip Hop por alguns anos, e aos 16 anos, passei a ouvir música dance, o que me levou a minha primeira festa Trance, em 1996.

Marina Tavares – Como você criou o projeto MAD MAXX?

MAD MAXX – Antes do MAD MAXX, eu fiz parte de outros dois projetos. Em 1999, eu fui parte do Biodegradable, que era formado por mim, CPU, e Mekkanikka.

Quando o projeto acabou, em 2001, eu comecei o projeto Sirius Isness, com a minha namorada na época, que era a Davina. Nós tocamos com esse nome, até que decidimos parar em 2008-2009. Então, nesse meio tempo, em 2007, eu criei o projeto MAD MAXX, e tenho tocado com esse nome desde então. O que me levou ao projeto foi a mistura de todas as minhas experiências fazendo música, e eu estou muito feliz até hoje!

Marina Tavares – Quais foram as suas influências musicais?

MAD MAXX – Se você está perguntando quem foram as minhas influências no Trance, eu posso citar Space Tribe, GMS, Simon Posford, X-Dream, Absolum, Astrix, Altom…

Se você pergunta sobre as minhas influências fora do Trance, eu posso dizer que foi um pouco de tudo, Pink Floyd, rock clássico, reggae, música classica, todos os tipos de música étnica. Uma variedade tão grande que seria chato nomear todas elas aqui.

Marina Tavares – Quais são os seus três álbuns favoritos de todos os tempos?

Marina Tavares – Quando foi a sua primeira apresentação no Brasil?

MAD MAXX – Foi há muito tempo, eu acho que em algum lugar de São Paulo, em 2005, alguém decidiu dar uma chance para o nosso projeto Sirius Isness, e deu certo! Nós voltamos muitas vezes ao Brasil com esse projeto.

Marina Tavares – Como foi tocar no Shiva Trance Festival?

MAD MAXX – Foi lamacento, mas foi ótimo! (risos) Que multidão estava lá! Todos estavam em conexão com a música, e super coloridos, o que deu um toque legal no visual e aspecto.

O som foi ótimo, e eu acho que as pessoas realmente se conectaram com a vibração psicodélica que eu queria passar durante o meu set!

Marina Tavares – Existe algum lugar que você nunca tenha tocado e realmente queira tocar?

MAD MAXX – Sim, absolutamente! Acredite ou não, eu nunca toquei na Tailândia, então, esse é um lugar que definitivamente quero tocar. Também na Coréia, gostaria de tocar um set lá porque eu amo a Ásia!

Marina Tavares – Após tantos anos tocando, o que você acha da cena eletrônica?

MAD MAXX – Bem, a cena tem passado por muitas fases, mas eu acho que isso no final será para o melhor. O Psychedelic Trance está ganhando algum espaço na cena eletrônica global, e devagar ganhando mais respeito dos grandes DJs e gravadoras. Eu acho que chegará um tempo em um futuro próximo, que iremos ouvir clássicos do Psychedelic Trance nas principais rádios do mundo.

O público é sábio, está sempre mudando, e os jovens estão vindo mais do que nunca, e é daí que virá a energia para criar a evolução.

Marina Tavares – De onde você tira inspiração para criar novas músicas?

MAD MAXX – Eu tenho quando vem, e não é nada que possa explicar. Eu sou muito sonhador, e normalmente viajo em minha mente, então fico inspirado frequentemente. Mas eu vejo isso como uma onda, e quando vem, ela merece ser surfada até que a costa se quebre. Nós precisamos honrar e respeitar essa onda, quando ela escolhe nos abençoar com a sua sabedoria.

Marina Tavares – Fale-me um pouco sobre o novo projeto MAD TRIBE.

MAD MAXX – MAD TRIBE é o meu novo e atual projeto com ninguém mais ninguém menos que Olli Space Tribe. Nós acabamos de lançar um álbum algumas semanas atrás pela TIP Records, na Inglaterra. Pode ser definido como uma mistura de ambos nossos estilos, levando as coisas em um novo nível de loucura, e escalas de sons psicoativos.

Marina Tavares – Quais são os seus hobbies quando você não está produzindo ou em turnê?

MAD MAXX – Basicamente, eu tive que desistir de qualquer um dos meus hobbies. Quando não estou viajando, eu tento dormir, ou ler e-mails e cuidar da minha gravadora que tenho com alguns amigos, chamada United Beats Records. Se tenho algum tempo durante a noite, saio pela cidade para comer e tomar uma cerveja, eu gosto de comer bem e passar algum tempo com meus amigos, qualquer dia da semana.

Marina Tavares – Quais são as novidades em relação aos lançamentos e turnês?

MAD MAXX – Bem, eu estou indo para a França amanhã, depois em Dezembro, uma turnê no Japão e Austrália, terminando o ano em Portugal na virada. Então, no começo do ano, volto com força total na França, depois Índia, México, Panamá, Argentina, e então eu voltarei para os Estados Unidos.

Os lançamentos estão vindo, um com o Avalon na próxima compilação Nano Origins, em algumas semanas. Depois nós estaremos fazendo a nossa melhor compilação pela United Beats, em Janeiro, em que estou lançando um remix que fiz do Sonic Species, e outro remix do Shivatree da minha track com Avalon, The Ritual.

Marina Tavares – Gostaria de finalizar com uma mensagem para os seus fãs?

MAD MAXX – Sim! Eu estou extremamente feliz em poder tocar no Brasil, e espero poder compartilhar mais do meu som com vocês, em um futuro próximo. Sejam fieis a vocês mesmos e o que vocês amam na música.

Marina Tavares – When was your first contact with electronic music?

MAD MAXX – First contact was when I was about 11 or 12 years old.

My dad is a musician and he was making some electronic stuff back in the 80’s. I then got turned on to these electronic CD compilations with all kinds of cutting edge electronic atmospheric music. Then I got in to hip hop for a few years, and when I was 16 I started listening to more dance music which led me to my first trance party in 1996.

Marina Tavares – How do you create your MAD MAXX project?

MAD MAXX – Prior to MAD MAXX I was part of 2 other projects. In 1999 I was part of Biodegradable, which was a collective project between CPU, Mekkanikka and I.

When that stopped in 2001 I started Sirius Isness with my girlfriend at the time who was Davina. We performed under that name until we decided to stop in 2008-2009. So in the mean time, in 2007 I created the MAD MAXX project, and have been performing under that name ever since. It’s a mix of all my experiences making music which led me to this point, and I’m very happy with it so far.

Marina Tavares – What were your musical influences?

MAD MAXX – If you are asking what my influences were in the trance world, I would say Space Tribe, GMS, Simon Posford, X-Dream, Absolum, Astrix, Altom… The ones from those days.

If you ask me what were my influences outside the trance world, I would say a bit of everything, some Pink Floyd, some classic rock, some reggae, classical music, all kinds of ethnic music. Such a wide range it would be boring to name all of them here.

Marina Tavares – When was your first presentation here in Brazil?

MAD MAXX – Wow that was a while ago, well I think it was somewhere in São Paulo, in 2005, someone had decided to take a chance with our project Sirius Isness and it worked! We then came back many times to Brazil as that project.

Marina Tavares – How was to play at Shiva Trance Festival?

MAD MAXX – It was muddy but great! heheh What a crowd there! Everyone was really into the music and very colorful which gave a nice touch to the visual aspect of it.

The sound was great and I think people really got into the Psy vibe I wanted to give during my set.

Marina Tavares – There’s a place you never played and really want to play?

MAD MAXX – Yes absolutely! Believe it or not, I have never played in Thailand, so that is definitely a place I want to play. Also in Korea, I’d really like to go do a set there because I love Asia so much.

Marina Tavares – After so many years playing, what do you think about the electronic music scene?

MAD MAXX – Well, it’s gone through many phases, but I think it will be all for the best in the end. Psychedelic Trance is gaining some space in the overall electronic scene, and slowly getting more and more respect from the bigger DJ’s and labels. I think there will be a time in the near future when we will be able to hear classic Psytrance on the main radio stations around the world.

Crowd wise, it’s ever changing, and more young people are getting into it than ever, and this is where the energy will come from to create the evolution of it.

Marina Tavares – Where do you get inspiration to create new music?

MAD MAXX – I get it when it comes, and it’s nothing I can explain or put my finger on. I’m very dreamy and usually drifting off in my mind, so I do get inspired quite often. But I see it as a wave, and when it comes, it deserves to be surfed until it breaks on the shore. We need to honors and respect that wave when it chooses to bless us with its wisdom.

Marina Tavares – Tell me a little bit about the new project MAD TRIBE.

MAD MAXX – MAD TRIBE is my new and current project with no more any less than Olli Space Tribe. We have just released our album a couple of weeks ago on TIP Records in the UK. It’s a mix of both of our styles, pushing things to a new level of madness and psychoactive sound scales.

Marina Tavares – What are your hobbies when you are not producing or traveling?

MAD MAXX – I basically had to give up on any of my hobbies. When I am not traveling I am usually trying to get some sleep, or catching up with emails and taking care of my label which I have with some friends, called United Beats Records. If I have time at night, I’ll go have a beer and a nice meal in town though, I do like to eat well and have a good time with friends any day of the week.

Marina Tavares – What are the news about tours and releases?

MAD MAXX – Well, next up I’ve got France tomorrow, then in December Japan and Australia tour and ending up in Portugal for New Years Eve. Then at the beginning of the year it goes full force with France again and then India, Mexico, Panama, Argentina and then I’m in the USA.

Releases are coming, one with Avalon on the next Nano Origins compilation in a couple of weeks, and then we are doing one of our best compilations on United Beats for January, onto which I’m releasing a remix I did of Sonic Species and an other remix by Shivatree of my track with Avalon, The Ritual.

Marina Tavares – Do you want to leave a message for your Brazilian fans?

Mad Maxx – Yes! I’m extremely happy to have been able to play in Brazil last week and hope to be able to share more of my sound with you guys in the near future. And stay true to your selves and to what you love in the music.
